As outlined in the explanatory memorandum of the bill, the commission’s primary responsibility will be to oversee the receipt and management of funds allocated from the Federation Account. These funds are designated for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of critical infrastructure in the region. This includes the repair and rebuilding of roads, houses, and other infrastructural facilities that have suffered damage as a result of the civil war.

The establishment of this commission is a crucial step towards redressing the historical challenges faced by the South-East region. It aims to facilitate significant improvements in infrastructure, which is essential for the region’s overall economic development, stability, and integration into the national framework.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Mr Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu noted that when established, “The commission will as well tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the Southeast States which include Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi.”JAMB Result
