Twitch revamps rules on sexual content

Twitch, the popular streaming platform primarily known for gaming content, has revised its rules on adult content, allowing certain forms of explicit material deemed artistic. The Amazon-owned site announced that creators can now feature content highlighting their “breasts, buttocks or pelvic region” as part of their artistic expression.InformationGuideNigeria

This policy change comes as Twitch acknowledges the confusion surrounding its previous guidelines on sexual content, which had a blanket ban on most explicit material. Angela Hession, Twitch Vice President of Customer Trust, mentioned in a blog post that the platform had received feedback from streamers about the difficulty in understanding how their content would be interpreted under the old rules. The revamp aims to give streamers confidence in the platform’s guidelines and ensure viewers have a clear expectation of the content they will encounter.JAMB Portal

Under the new policy, a wide range of creative expressions, including drawings, sculptures, and body painting, which previously faced uncertainty, will now be allowed.JAMB Result

Twitch recognized that its earlier policy was overly punitive and did not accurately reflect the nature of artistic content on the platform.

The key change is the introduction of content creation labels for certain streams, requiring viewer consent before access. Content that deliberately highlights breasts, buttocks, or the pelvic region, along with body painting and “erotic dances” involving clothing removal, is now permissible, provided it is appropriately labeled. Other forms of dance, such as pole dancing and “twerking,” are allowed without specific labels.NYSC Portal

Twitch has clarified that while much of the previously banned content will now be allowed with proper labeling, a blanket ban on pornographic material remains in effect. Streamers who fail to label their content correctly will receive a warning, and Twitch will apply the appropriate label. This policy adjustment is a significant shift for Twitch, aiming to balance content freedom with clear guidelines and viewer consent.
