Ayodeji Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, has made history as the first artist to win the Favourite Afrobeats Artiste category at the American Music Awards.

The event’s 50th iteration was hosted at Microsoft Theater in California on Sunday.Information Guide Nigeria

Wizkid competed against other Nigerian competitors, including Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, and Tems, to ultimately win the award for best new artist.JAMB portal

At the ceremony, his work with Tems on the album Essence also won the award for Favorite R&B Song.

Essence, the eleventh track from Wizkid’s fourth studio album Made in Lagos, continues to win accolades two years after its release in October 2020.NYSC portal

Six awards, including Artiste of the Year for 2022, were won by American singer Tailor Swift, making her the biggest winner of the evening. She now holds a total of 40 AMA awards, making her the most-awarded artist in the organization’s history.
