Do more to improve Nigeria’s’ security, religious leaders ordered Bihari
Religious leaders in the country, particularly, from Christian faith have ordered the sitting Nigerian President, Mr. Muhammadu Buhari to use his re-election effectively by doing more to improve the security of Nigerians, as well as, unite the citizens, adding that he should use the nation’s resources to develop the country the more.
The clerics gave the order on today, Tuesday in a separate interview with Newsmen in Lagos. In his submission, the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins, has urged Mr. President to do more in the areas of securing lives and property of the citizenry. “The state of the nation, particularly the level of insecurity, is a big concern.
“We hope that in President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election, he will do a lot more in this area than he did before. He should show more passion for ensuring the security of the nation and do the needful for the country; today we are hearing of insecurity in many parts of the country.
“All of these things naturally don’t give one a lot of confidence, but we are hoping that at his re-election, there will be a reshuffling in the security sector. “New blood can be brought in, new ideas can come in, probably they will do something different than what was obtainable in the past,” Martins said.
Also speaking was the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Lagos State Chapter, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola. He urged Gen Buhari to enhance effort in the way he is using the country’s resources to develop the nation.
“If I were the President, I will spend every day developing this country, using every resource to build the nation; he should continue to strive in stopping politicians from stealing from the taxpayers’ money. He should not allow people plundering this nation to further plunder it, if that is all he will give to this nation; he will remain a statesman of a historical proportion like Mandela,” CAN chairman said.
In his words, the Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Pastor Olusola Ore, said that the issue of corruption should be looked into holistically without sacred cows. “I think he be should up his game in the area of security, the killings; communal and ethnic should stop. The President should look holistically into the issue of corruption. “The President should look around him and make sure he is not smeared by the people around him,“ he said.
Rev. Fr. Stephen Akinsowon, Parish Priest, of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Ikeja was among the clerics who spoke, and according to him; “I think the President needs to unite Nigerians more than ever before. I will say that he enjoyed the goodwill of Nigerians in his first term, but it is obvious that it was difficult to convince Nigerians to vote for him the second time around.
