In this article, l will be highlighting the reasons why there are so many churches in Nigeria. We have quite a number of churches in Nigeria, so many of them why?
It is because churches are profitable ventures. So many individuals who recognized this truth and as well, played “the game” are said to enjoy millions of naira through milking members of their congregation dry.
And the sad thing is that these same people who are victims of being sucked dry by their pastors are the same faithful members willing to be used and carried away by the smooth-talking pastors, who are said to be Bible-toting criminals. That is why we have few Christians in Nigeria and many churchgoers!
Why There Are So Many Churches In Nigeria:
As l said earlier, there are so many reasons why there are many churches in Nigeria. And in this article, l will be highlighting the reasons why there are so many churches in Nigeria.
1. Persistent Desperation:
It is true that only God can change a nation for the better, whether in terms of spiritual revival, or social-political and economic development.
People can actually pray to God for a change, sometimes, it can be through their pastors after they might have perhaps, sowed seeds, asking God to help Nigerian leaders to lead with the fear of God in order to bring development, even when they have failed to constructively criticise their government for failing to implement policies that could have better the lot.
So they continue to pray to God to touch the hearts of these leaders so that they can do the right thing. So they believed church is a place to seek God’s face.
2. Members Worship Pastors For Turning Themselves Mini God:
Another reason why there are so many churches in Nigeria is that church pastors turned themselves into mini gods expecting their members to worship them like God.
And because they see their pastors as gods, they relied so much on their pastors, and believed in their pastors, rather than relying on true God, and believe Him hence, the congregation will be obliged to do whatsoever their pastors asked them to do, even to their detriment.
That is why you will see their members going extra miles to impress their pastors. So they will induce love, and acceptance from their congregation.
3. Churches Are Considered Money-Making Ventures:
One of the reasons why there are so many churches in Nigeria is because churches are considered money-making ventures.
And to most pastors who run church business, their interest is to accumulate wealth, they have seen church business as a pathway to make more money.
Therefore, the theme of their messages always anchored on money and prosperity hence, they have become businessmen asking their members to bring money into the church of God.
So as their members are busy bringing money into the house of God, their pastors are also busy laughing into the bank.
4. Many Pastors Want To Make Fame and Name:
Another reason why there are so many churches in Nigeria is that many church pastors want to make a name.
Pastors are now competing on who will become the richest pastors in Nigeria, who has the largest congregation in Nigeria, and by extension in Africa, even to the large extent in the world.
And they are also competing on who build the largest church auditorium in Nigeria, and by extension in Africa, even to the large extent in the world.
So they are struggling to enter the ‘Guinness book of record’ as the richest pastor in the world, or the pastor that have the largest congregation in the world. This also explained why there are so many churches in Nigeria.
5. People Pursue Miracle:
Another reason why there are so many churches in Nigeria is that people these days are pursuing a miracle.
It is in Nigeria where pastors will be telling their members that they will receive a miraculous phone call and the person who calls them will give them dollars in millions.
So how will you expect a lesser number of churches in a country where people love miracles to a fault. So because of a miracle, everyone is either busy attending church programs or establish one to entertain others. And you wonder why there are so many sick people in today’s church than a hospital.
6. ln Search Of Divine Money:
Another reason why there are so many churches in Nigeria is because individuals who go into church business do so in pursuit of divine property.
They have differentiate between worldly prosperity and divine prosperity. There is no doubt that, the love of money is infected a number of people in this country such that, people are ready to do anything just to have money, irrespective how they get the money.
A lot of people in Nigeria believe in one month fast and all sort of assignments in their pursuit of divine property as well as, material things, and not necessarily work for those things.

7. Getting Rich Quick Scheme:
Another reason why there are so many churches in Nigeria is because of getting the rich quick scheme.
Most of the pastors tricked their members into giving, and their members will be thinking that sowing so much money as “seeds”, they will be standing chances of becoming millionaires.
Has this magic ever worked for anybody? Something happens when members sow “seeds” in the church, their pastors will become millionaire, while the members loss because they sow their seeds in the church without understanding.
8. Spirit Of End Time At Work:
One of the reasons why there are so many churches in Nigeria is because there is the spirit of end time at work.
The Bible says that in the end-time people shall be lovers of themselves, and this explained why there are so many churches in Nigeria.
Some of the Nigerian pastors do not care for their members, all that they are caring for is themselves and members of their families.
It is not in their plan to preach the undiluted word of God to the congregation, and as well, take time to evaluate members whether they are actually growing in the Lord, rather, their focus is simply to extort their members in order to accumulate wealth.
9. Over Dependence On Religion:
One of the reasons why there are so many churches in Nigeria is because of over-dependence on religion on the part of Nigerians.
Why is this true? The reason is that the spirit of fear of the unknown has engulfed many, as well as some strange revelations that they might have either in their lives or from their religious leaders, and because of this, many Nigerians have been forced to depend too much on religion hence, so many have also going into establishing their own personal churches, hence one key reason why there are so many churches in Nigeria.
10. To Apeace God And Escape From Problems:
Another reason why there are so many churches in Nigeria is because, some Nigerians believe that, founding churches is a pathway of appeasing God and escaping from life problems.
Therefore, in Nigeria, according to many beliefs, to escape from hardship, and unemployment and family problems as well as, other societal problems, they have to find solace in founding churches for God.
Churches are considered profitable ventures. So many individuals who recognized this truth have gone into establishing their own churches so as to enjoy millions of naira through milking members of their congregation dry.
And the sad thing is that, these same people who are victims of being sucked dry by their pastors, are the same faithful members willing to be used and carried away by the smooth-talking pastors, who are said to be Bible-toting criminals.
