World Bank aids Kenya in its push to become Africa’s tech capital

Following a report that Kenya intends to digitize all of its government data, the World Bank has decided to fund Kenya in other digitalization projects.Information Guide Nigeria

The World Bank has given Sh1.5 billion to help expedite Kenya’s digital growth. About two weeks ago, the Kenyan government stated that, over the next five years, it will digitize all government records. Check out the story here.

In response, the World Bank, through its Single Digital Market (SDM) program, is aiding the East African nation in its aim to become a more dynamic centre for digital investment, innovation, and economic growth.

This partnership between Kenya and the World Bank is intended to support connection market development and integration, hence building a legal, regulatory, and ICT institutional environment conducive to enhancing digitalization in the region.NYSC portal

The initiative would also investigate the growth of the region’s data industry by establishing cyber-security frameworks, infrastructure, and capability.

In a meeting conducted at the World Bank’s office in Washington, DC, delegates from the World Bank and the Kenyan government reviewed the planned project in depth. EAC Secretary General Peter Mathuki and a World Bank team led by Mohammed Essakali, Manager of Africa Regional Integration, and Casey Torguss, Global Manager, Digital Development, were in attendance.

During the meeting, the EAC Secretary General remarked that this type of project encompasses all of its partner states and disclosed that plans are in the works to develop additional regional digital innovation hubs across East Africa to address the digital concerns within the subcontinent.JAMB Result

“This support will further enhance the region’s competitiveness and skills development that is central to successful digital transformation,” Mathuki stated.
