Meta has massive plans for VR, despite users not being that into it

Meta intends to release a new version of its Quest virtual reality headset this year, followed by two more advanced models in the following years.Information Guide Nigeria

Meta shared this information with its staff on Tuesday, according to a thorough roadmap presentation acquired by The Verge(Opens in a new tab).

The new Quest 3 headset will be twice as tiny and at least twice as powerful as its predecessor, the Quest 2. Employees were informed at the presentation that it will be significantly more expensive (Quest 2 retails for $400). The business also intends to release 41 new apps and games for the Quest 3.

Yet this is only the beginning. Ventura is the codename for a headset that Meta expects to deploy in 2024. And while there are no plans to release a successor to the $1,499 Meta Quest Pro, which was released late last year, the company does intend to release a more advanced headset sometime after Ventura. It will have photorealistic Codec Avatars and bear the codename La Jolla.NYSC Portal

During the presentation, Mark Rabkin, Meta’s vice president of virtual reality, informed staff that the business had shipped nearly 20 million Quest headgear. But, he added that the most recent purchasers of Quest 2 are “just not as into it” as those who purchased the game earlier.

This is quite intriguing. We are aware that Meta is losing money on its virtual and augmented reality endeavors, and we have heard rumors that people are not keen to return to some of Meta’s VR experiences after testing them out for the first time, but it is unusual to hear it from the firm itself.JAMB Result

Meta is also preparing a follow-up to its augmented reality spectacles, which it co-created with Ray-parent Ban’s company Luxottica, as soon as this fall. Since that Meta does not disclose sales figures, it is difficult to determine if they have had a significant influence on users (I have never seen anyone wearing them). Meta is already preparing a third generation of the glasses for 2025, which would have a “viewfinder,” that will allow users to view incoming text messages, translate text, and scan QR codes. In addition, they will be equipped with a “neural interface” band that will enable users to operate them with hand motions.
