Appeal court upholds APC senator’s victory in Oyo

The Court of Appeal has corroborated the decision of the National Assembly Petition Tribunal by confirming the electoral victory of Senator Sharafadeen Alli representing the Oyo South district.InformationGuideNigeria

As reported by DAILY POST, Senator Alli, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had been announced the winner of the senatorial race that took place on Saturday, 25th February, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).NYSC Portal

However, the legitimacy of Senator Alli’s triumph was contested at the tribunal by candidates Joseph Tegbe of the Peoples Democratic Party and Funmilayo Gbogbolomo from the New Nigeria Peoples Party. Notably, the tribunal had previously ratified Senator Allis win, subsequently dismissing the allegations brought forward by the PDP and NNPP representatives.JAMB Result

Unsatisfied with the tribunal’s judgment, both Tegbe and Gbogbolomo took their cases to the Court of Appeal.

Yet, on Friday, the Court of Appeal reinforced Senator Alli’s victory. Tegbe’s appeal was rejected on the basis of it being unmeritorious, reiterating the tribunal’s prior judgment. Concurrently, the court also declined Gbogbolomo’s appeal.JAMB Portal

The panel of judges arrived at a unanimous decision to turn down the appeals presented by both challengers.
