The NMGP is a 5,600 kilometer gas pipeline project that will eventually supply gas from Nigeria to West African nations up to the Kingdom of Morocco and then to Europe. It will cross 13 African countries and traverse 5600 km.

The project will eventually supply around three billion standard cubic feet of gas per day along the West African coast from Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, and Morocco.
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd. Mele Kyari signed the agreement on behalf of Nigeria, while Dr. Amina Benkhadra, Director-General of Morocco’s National Office for Hydrocarbons and Mines, signed it on behalf of Morocco.

Sediko Douka, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization, executed the document on the group’s behalf.

In his remarks at the MoU signing event, Kyari referred to the development as a crucial turning point in the NMGP project, when all of the project’s major players had come together to reconfirm their commitments to seeing the project through.

While thanking President Muhammadu Buhari and His Royal Majesty, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, who both entrusted NNPC Ltd and ONHYM with the strategic project, Kyari noted that from the project’s inception to this point, coordinated efforts had been made by the governments of both countries, which led to the accomplishments recorded so far.

The NMGP project was an idea that came to the Federal Government and the Kingdom of Morocco during King Mohammed VI of Morocco’s visit to Nigeria in December 2016.
