Court remands 5 over alleged attempted murder of farmer

At the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, five men have been remanded in custody over charges of attempted murder of a 40-year-old farmer, Mr. Musefiu Raimi, in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.informationguidenigeria

The accused individuals are Ademola Isiaka (58), Alabi Rasak (58), Ademola Aremu (22), Muritala Habideen (24), and Abisoye Taiwo (55).NYSC Portal

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O. O. Ogunkanmi, overseeing the case, did not take the defendants’ pleas. Instead, she ordered that they be remanded at the Abolongo custodial facility in Oyo Town.JAMB Result

This decision was made pending legal advice from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions.

The hearing has been adjourned to February 5, 2024, for further mention.JAMB Portal

The defendants face two counts of charges: conspiracy and attempted murder. According to the prosecutor, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye, the defendants, along with others who are currently at large, allegedly conspired to commit the crime on December 10. Opaleye detailed that between the hours of 8:00 am and 12:30 pm, at the Ilajue area of Ogbomoso, the defendants attempted to murder Mr. Raimi by shooting him in the leg with a gun.

“The defendants mounted a road block while the complainant was returning from farm on a motorcycle.

“On sighting the road block, the complainant made an attempt to turn back and flee, but was shot by the defendants on the leg,” he said.
