COURT REMANDS HOUSEWIFE FOR STABBING HOUSE BOY TO DEATH IN KANO

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kano has ordered the remand of Hafsat Surajo, a 24-year-old housewife, in a correctional center for the alleged murder of her house help, Nafiu Hafizu, aged 38. Hafsat Surajo, who resides in Unguwa Uku Quarters in Kano, faces charges of attempted suicide and culpable homicide.JAMB Portal

Chief Magistrate Hadiza Abdulrahman, presiding over the case, ordered the defendant’s remand and adjourned the matter to February 1, 2024, for further proceedings. The prosecution, led by Lamido Sorondinki, presented the incident that occurred on December 20, 2023, alleging that the defendant attempted to commit suicide using a sharp knife, injuring herself in the process. During this attempt, she is accused of using the same knife to stab Nafiu Hafizu in the chest and other parts of his body, leading to his death.

Hafsat Surajo pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted suicide but not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide. The offense, as stated, contravenes Sections 281 and 221 of the Penal Code.

Additionally, Hafsat’s husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, along with Adamu Muhammad and Nasidi Muhammad, were also arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court. They face charges of criminal conspiracy, concealment of fact, and providing false information related to the alleged murder of Nafiu Hafizu. The prosecution accused these individuals of conspiring with Haruna Adamu, who is currently at large, to conceal the true cause of Nafiu’s death on December 20, 2023.JAMB Result

The defence counsel, Rabiu Sidi and Rabiu Abdullahi, urged the court to grant the defendants bail pursuant to Section 36(5) of the 1999 Nigeria Constitution as amended and Sections 168 and 172 of the ACJL 2019 Kano State.

“All we want is justice to be done to both parties,” he said.
