About Sidney Esiri
Sidney Esiri, a Nigerian singer and song writer who is known by his stage name Dr. sid is a qualified dentist who deviated from the medical field to pursue his musical career is from Okpe, urhobo extract of Delta State in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
He was born to the late veteran Nollywood actor Justus Esiri (MON) and fashion designer Omiete Esiri as the second of four children on the 1st of May, 1980 in Ikeja, Lagos state where he was raised.
Sidney attended the Nigerian Air force secondary school Ikeja and the university of Ibadan, Oyo state where he studied dental surgery.
The artistic niche had always been evident in his life as he was always part of school plays, competitions and concerts where he won several awards.
After graduating from the university, Dr Sid moved to the united kingdom for a while to peharps further his studies or boost his professional career as a dentist, he met JJC Skillz, Felix Duke, KAS, RTO, Dbanj and the 419 Squad in the United Kingdom and worked with them in regards to music.
He later to retuned to Nigeria and worked with the Lagos University teaching hospital before proceeding to Yola, the capital of Adamawa state, northern Nigeria for the compulsory national youth service scheme.
The singer officially embarked on his artistic journey in 1999, when he signed up with Trybe Records ( Trybesmen) as a choreographer, he spent years in the label as a back up dancer for the trybesmen.
In 2002, he became a member if the trybe and began to feature in some if their singles one of which was “OYA” alongside Timi Dakolo, Shasha, 2 shotz, Del and the entire trybesmen which consisted of Eldee, KB and Freestyle.
Letter that year, he released a single titled “Don’t stop” which gained massive airplay and was at the top of video charts for two months.
He started working on album titled “Prognosis” in 2005 but abandoned the following year and decided to finally quit practicing as a dentist for fully focus on music.
With this decision, he met Don Jazzy who signed him to Mo Hits records where he became more pro active as an artist.
After being a part of the Mo Hits collective album “Curriculum Vitae” (CV), his name became well known in the entertainment industry.
In 2008, he toured with his label mates at major concerts within and without Nigeria, increasing his fan base and by the time he was finally ready to release his debut album in 2009, the public was very eager to receive it.
The album which was titled “Turning Point” was produced by Don Jazzy and it featured Dbanj, Wande Coal and other Mo Hits act and it hit singles were ” Something about you”, “Winchi Winchi” and “Pop something” which was like a street anthem were first released but the entire album officially got out in 2011 and it was at top of music charts.
After Mo Hits fell out in 2012, Dr Sid remained with Don Jazzy and signed with Mavin records were he continued working in his music. About three of his singles were featured in the Mavin Records album “Solar Plexus”.
In 2013, his singles “Lady Don Dada”, “Surulere” and “Baby Tornado” which was remixed to feature united kingdom artist Alexander Burke were very successful hits.
“Oyari” another single that featured Mavin first lady Tiwa Savage was a beautiful 2014 hit. In 2015, Dr Sid graced our screens and radio stations with an amazing afro single “Kabiyesi” that featured Don Jazzy.
Dr. Sid is obviously a very hard worker who did not leverage on his father’s legendary status as a celebrated and highly respected Veterans if the Nigerian film industry.
Many people did not even realize the singer was the son of the late actor until when the actor died. Dr Sid admitted that his father was a strong disciplinarian who worried about him delving from his medical practice to the entertainment industry but when he saw the determination and drive with which his son pursued his musical career, he believed in him and gave him full support.
The singer recently released new singles in march 2017, titled “We Up” and “Greater things”. He is currently in the united States touring with his music and taking a course in directing.
Dr. Sid married his wife Simi Osomo on the 29th of July 2014 and together they have a baby girl who is named after her daddy. Simi is a lawyer turned entrepreneur.
She was the former assistant editor of Complete Fashion Magazine and she recently launched her own fashion magazine “Schick Magazine”.

His first album “Turning Point” was released in 2010, and his second album “Seduction” was in 2013.
