A high school diploma or the equivalent is needed to become a police officer. Most of the time, they must also have at least 60 semester hours of college in criminal justice or a related field. Police officers must finish a training academy, pass a written and physical certification exam, pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver’s license, and be at least 21 years old.
