Gunmen invade Imo palace, shoot monarch, chiefs, villagers dead

In the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, a king named Ignitus Asor and four other people—two chiefs and two villagers—were allegedly shot dead on Monday by armed intruders who broke into the monarch’s castle in the Obudi Agwa community.InformationGuideNigeria

PUNCH Metro gathered from sources in the community that the gunmen stormed the monarch’s palace when Asor, his chiefs, and some other persons were discussing a matter bordering on the community.

The source said, Our community was attacked Monday morning. The gunmen invaded the monarch’s palace where issues were being discussed.

“They opened fire and as I speak with you, the traditional ruler, two chiefs and two others have been confirmed dead. The traditional prime minister of the community, Chief Ajoku, and a retired soldier was also shot but they are still alive.

When contacted, the coordinator of Agwa Development Center, Obinna Jumbo, stated that the incident had been reported to the police for investigation by the relatives of the victims and by community members.

The victims’ bodies had been taken away from the area and put in a morgue, he continued.

Ijioma Ofili, the only administrator of Oguta LGA, confirmed the occurrence to our correspondent over the phone and added that attempts were being made to find those responsible for the heinous attacks.

In addition to reassuring residents that life has returned to normal, the LGA leader promised that justice would be delivered in the case to ease the suffering of the families of the victims who were killed.

The incident was confirmed when contacted by Michael Abattam, the state police public relations officer.

However, as of the time this report was made, the command had not yet done what he had promised.
