The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has joined a host of others to celebrate the Doyen of Accountancy in Nigeria, Pa Akintola Williams on the occasion of his 103rd birthday. INDEPENDENT reports. Information Guide Nigeria

Pa Williams who was born on August 9, 1919, is the first African to qualify as a chartered accountant and the foremost chartered Accountant in Nigeria.

He is one of the founding fathers of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), as well as the founding member and first president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Pa Williams younger brother, Rotimi Williams, was also the first Nigerian to be decorated with the title, ‘Senior Advocate of Nigeria’ (SAN). His younger brother also set up the first indigenous Nigerian law firm in 1948 with Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode and Chief Bode Thomas. The law firm was called Thomas, Williams, and Kayode.
