Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is a highly dignified and somewhat elitist agency. It is also perceived by many Nigerians as one of the most highly paying military organization in the country. Evidence could be the trooping number of candidates who jostle for employment into the service annually. It can also be measured by the incidence of 2014 where about 16 out of the 6.5 million candidates died across the nation while scampering for the 4,000 vacant positions in the service. Overcrowding at recruitment centers and impatience of applicants according to sources like Wikipedia are reported to have been the causes of the stampede that led to the deaths of the applicants and several others who were injured.

The Nigerian Immigration Service still has the highest number of applicants year in and year out. Immigration staff in Nigeria are among the most respected and revered security agents in the country. Salary Structure of NIS

Although the salary of the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service is as high as N3 million per annum and that of a Passport Officer as low as N30, 000, the salary of a graduate in the service is according to voice of Nigeria is about N150, 000 excluding other benefits and allowances.
