Lagos woman jailed 10 years for sex trafficking

A Federal High Court in Lagos State has convicted Chinyere Raman, a mother of five, to ten years in prison for trafficking a woman to Libya.Informaion Guide Nigeria

Friday, Justice Abimbola Awogboro delivered the verdict, convicting her of human trafficking and promoting prostitution.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons arraigned Raman in 2019.

She was accused of purchasing the victim for 300,000 Libyan dinars from a Cameroonian believed to be at large in order to exploit and prostitute her.

When she returned from Libya on February 22, 2019, she was apprehended at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria.

She entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation brought against her.

In response to her not-guilty plea, the prosecution presented its case by calling witnesses and introducing numerous evidence.

Justice Awogboro ruled on Friday that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The judge imposed a five-year prison term on each of the two offences against the offender.Jamb Result 

However, Justice Awogboro directed that the sentences run consecutively and begin on the day of the offender’s arrest, February 22, 2019.
