NJC finally unveils 11 justices for Supreme Court bench

The National Judicial Council (NJC) of Nigeria has taken a significant step in strengthening the judiciary by recommending 11 justices for appointment to the Supreme Court bench. This recommendation was part of the NJC’s decisions at its 104th meeting held in Abuja on December 6, 2023. Alongside the Supreme Court appointments, the council also recommended six Heads of Courts and 26 other Judicial Officers.JAMB Result

This move comes shortly after the Chairman of the Council and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, highlighted the need for the apex court to reach its full complement of 21 justices as prescribed by the constitution.informationguidenigeria

The NJC’s Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye, announced the names of the recommended justices, including Justices Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa, Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme, Haruna Simon Tsammani, Moore Aseimo A. Adumein, Obande Festus Ogbuiny, Stephen Jonah Adah, Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru, Jamilu Yammama Tukur, Abubakar Sadiq Umar, and Mohammed Baba Idris.

Additionally, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja was elevated to the Court of Appeal.JAMB Portal

The NJC also recommended several other appointments for various judicial positions across the country, including Chief Judges for Taraba and Kebbi States, Presidents for Customary Courts of Appeal in Ogun, Taraba, and Oyo States, and judges for the High Courts and Sharia Courts of Appeal in several states.NYSC Portal

The statement from the NJC also noted that the appointments to the Supreme Court bench would be finalized following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and confirmation by the Senate.

Similarly, the appointments of various Heads of Courts will be completed upon approval by their respective state governors and confirmation by the State Houses of Assembly.
