At a meeting held at the PDP Secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday, the State Working Committee of the PDP suspended five party members.

They were punished for organising a congress against the party’s decision at all levels and for doing so in violation of the party’s constitution.

The Financial Secretary, Odumosu, allegedly signed a letter “incorrectly informing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)” that a PDP congress will be held today.

The Ogun PDP Secretary, Dr. Sunday Solarin, told reporters present at the meeting that the party had not authorised Odumosu to write INEC, stating, “The party’s constitution does not authorise him to write a letter asking INEC to monitor a congress.”

Solarin stated that the five individuals will stay suspended for one month, but that they have the right to a fair hearing before a disciplinary commission that would be announced later.

He added that the party will continue its investigations, and that individuals found to have engaged in similar conduct would face similar repercussions.

The Secretary said that the PDP National Working Committee had appealed the Abeokuta Federal High Court’s decision to invalidate the party’s primaries in Ogun, stating that Lawal and others were supported by opposing parties.
