Let us start our review looking at the prices of tractors in Nigeria. But to get a fairly accurate review of the prices of tractors, it is necessary to divide the tractors into the following categories based on size and mode of operation:

Price of Bigger Sized Tractors

We are now in the biggest category of farm tractors. In this category, we will mention some of the common brands of farm tractors found in Nigeria.

The common brands are Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Mahindra and Caterpillar. The common practice is to buy or purchase these tractors in a fairly used state.

The price of a fairly used tractor in this category is between 6 million to 12 million naira. You can get a new tractor at a price starting from 11 million naira. This is one of the reasons why most farmers in Nigeria are finding it very difficult to obtain these types of tractors.

Prices of Tractor Accessories

Tractor accessories are the farm implements attached to the tractor. They are usually attached to the tractor because they are powered by the tractor to perform their operations. In this section we will be looking at the prices of some of these accessories.

Price of Ploughs

The plough is an implement used to break up the soil immediately after clearing. The price of a fairly used plough is between 2.7 million naira and 4 million naira. One can get a new plough at the price of 4 million naira upwards depending on the company.

One of the best places to go is alibaba.com. One can get some ridgers especially ones of the lowest size at the minimum price of 100 dollars converting it to naira and factoring the shipping costs one can round it up to 40000 naira at the time of this writing.

One can purchase the medium sized ridgers at the minimum price of 500 dollars maybe converting it to naira, one will round everything up to 200000 naira. Larger or very heavy ones can be ordered for at the minimum price of 4 million naira.

The planter is a machine used to place the seeds of crops such as maize, rice, beans etc. in the soil with precision and accuracy. Planters are of two types which are the tractor-mounted and the self-powered.

Harvesters are farm machines used to aid the easy harvesting of various crops during harvest. There are various types of harvesters but we will limit ourselves to the price of the tractor-mounted combine harvester.

The price of the tractor-mounted combine harvester ranges from between 6 million naira to 30 million naira for the ones of very big size. For mini sized combined harvesters that is the ones mounted on mini tractors, the price range is from 400000 to 1.2 million naira. While for the micro tractor-mounted combine harvesters, the price range is from 200000 naira to 400000 naira.

Price of Sprayers

Sprayers are machines used to spray certain chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, and weedicides during farm activities. As we have been doing, we will concentrate on the prices of tractor-mounted sprayers.

If the sprayer is of the mini or smallest size one can purchase it at a price of 20000 naira per piece. For the one of the biggest size, one could purchase it at the minimum price of 160000 naira per piece. Please note, the prices stated here are the ones given at the time of this writing.
