8. Poor Revenue Generation by the Corporation

One problem that is inherent in the Nigerian Railway Corporation now is that the corporation can no longer generate funds. It can generate revenue neither for itself nor for the country.

Of course, the nation cannot expect any funds from it since it did not invest anything in it. In countries like America, railway transportation is a huge source of income. Also, reporters quote India to have the most complex railway network in the world.

Coming to Nigeria, nothing goes well in its railway system. Observers have so many economic benefits that a country can derive from its railway system that Nigeria does not see. One day, Nigeria may wake up to see what other countries are seeing in their railway system.

Largely, the near total collapse of the Nigerian Railway system is due to poor management of the corporation. Those remaining in the corporation lack the intellectual expertise of managing a corporation with such structural complexity.

To worsen the situation, directional policies are not in place to direct the managers of the corporation. When we add a lack of policies to a lack of willpower to make sure the place works, the result is total collapse.

The truth remains that Nigerian leaders and lawmakers do not realize the benefits that Nigeria can derive from its railway system. To be sincere with you, Nigeria is yet to get the right leaders and lawmakers who are selfless, and who need the betterment of Nigeria. Until we get such leaders and lawmakers, Nigeria will continue to suffer.

The question that someone may ask is where is the money with which to run the corporation? Who is to bring a lot of money?

Here lies the problem, lacking the ability to act and lacking the ability to involve others. Getting money to run the corporation is very simple where willpower and effectiveness are.

One thing is clear; all money that the corporation gets is an investment that can yield triple whatever it gets. Think of other countries that are in the same business, how do they get their money to run such a corporation?

One problem with Nigerian leaders is the inability to learn from others. Should the President of Nigeria want to learn from his fellow Presidents, he must succeed as they are succeeding. The question now is, is he ready to learn from them?Jamb Portal
