Resign ‘honourably’ from Obi’s campaign, APC tells Okupe

The All Progressives Congress presidential campaign committee sought Dr. Doyin Okupe’s immediate resignation from the campaign team of Labour Party candidate Peter Obi on Tuesday.Information Guide Nigeria

The contentious Director General of the Obi-Datti campaign was found guilty of violating the Money Laundering Act by an Abuja-based Federal High Court on Monday.

The leader of the LP was condemned to two and a half years in prison.

However, the sitting court, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, granted him the choice of a N500,000 fine for each of the 26 count counts, totaling N13 million.

To beat the 4:30 p.m. deadline, the former senior special assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan chose to pay a fine of N13 million.

In an interview with The PUNCH, Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media and Publicity for the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council, criticized Okupe, stating that he does not deserve to be in his position as DG of Obi’s campaign.JAMB portal

Onanuga stated that the only alternative currently available to the former PDP stalwart was to “honorably” withdraw from the race.

He said, “Okupe should resign from his post as DG of Obi’s Campaign. He should do so honorably. The court has spoken. He should no longer be involved in the campaign.”NYSC portal

But a resilient Okupe took to his Twitter account to attribute his travail to the handiwork of his “enemies.”

He tweeted, “God is not man. The enemies have tried in so many ways but keep failing…Victory is of God.”

Obi, in response to the event, swore that the conviction of his campaign director would not demoralize him.

The former Anambra governor made the statement at an interaction with journalists in Uyo on Monday.

The candidate for the Libertarian Party stated that he would not be distracted by the conviction and would allow the law to run its course.

He said, “I am hearing about it (the conviction) just like you. I am still studying what is coming out of the court and everything. I believe in the rule of law. It is not going to demoralise me.JAMB Result

“Today, when I arrived Akwa Ibom somebody asked me why I haven’t been using my aircraft because it has been grounded and all that, and I said to him that nothing demoralises me.

“In my life, I have never stayed where they dropped me, otherwise, I would have been where they dropped me before. This election, if they like, let them do anything about people who are around me. I will get there.
