Retired fireman rapes 12-year-old niece, family condemns bail

A former firefighter named only as Awulo is accused of raping a 12-year-old child in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State.Information Guide Nigeria

PUNCH Metro learned that Awulo was arrested when the victim’s father, Chukwuka, filed a complaint.

Felicia, the victim’s grandmother, stated that Awulo forced the girl into his room and raped her.

She said, “I discovered my granddaughter’s movement and behaviour had changed completely and I subjected her to questions.

“I insisted to know why my granddaughter was behaving funny but instead of saying something, she ran to her father, and opened up to him on how she was sexually abused by a family member, who threatened to kill her if she told anyone.”NYSC portal

Felicia stated that the girl’s father reported the incident to the Ogwashi-Uku police, but bemoaned the suspect’s release on bail after allegedly giving Chukwuka N40,000.

Chukwuka, the father of the victim, reported that he was in Owerri, Imo State, when the suspect was given bail.

“I was surprised when my daughter told me that she was raped by her mother’s brother. I threatened to kill whoever was involved but was advised to report the matter to the police which I did,” he added.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, stated that the case was not reported to the police.

He said, “I have called DPO Ogwashi-Uku division and the Ogwashi-Uku area commander, and they said the matter was not reported.”JAMB Result
