The Senate decided to look into the votes after learning that several agencies had received funding from SWV without informing the National Assembly panels tasked by law with monitoring the agencies.

The investigation concerns the distribution of service-wide votes between 2017 and 2021, according to Senator Mathew Urhoghide, chairman of the Senate Public Account Committee. He noted that given the amount set aside annually for it in the budget, the votes had grown to be a significant part of the country’s budget.
Given the uncertainty surrounding the approval of the votes, he claimed that the committee needed to assess how the funds obtained through votes were being used.

“Any agency who fails to appear, the committee will not hesitate to issue a warrant of arrest on the head of the agency because it has been discovered that many agencies collected this fund without informing the National Assembly committee saddled with the responsibility to overnight the agency.”

They are expected to show up in front of the committee.
He added, “Sustainable Development Goals collected N180 billion from the votes, NBET collected N2.9 billion, and Ministry of Humanitarian received N445 billion from the Votes.”
