Court rules against FIFA, UEFA ban of European Super League

The European Court of Justice issued a landmark ruling on Thursday, favoring the formation of the Super League and delivering a significant setback to both FIFA and UEFA, the global and European football governing bodies, respectively.InformationGuideNigeria

The court determined that FIFA and UEFA cannot misuse their dominant positions to impede the establishment of the Super League or penalize clubs intending to participate in it. In its statement, the court highlighted that the regulatory powers of FIFA and UEFA lack specific criteria, leading to an abuse of their dominant positions. Additionally, the court deemed their rules regarding approval, control, and sanctions as arbitrary and unjustified restrictions on the freedom to provide services.NYSC Portal
