Instead, he emphasised that only the parents of the couple marrying are qualified to bestow such sanctity.

In a series of tweets, Omokri stated:
“Someone said church wedding is necessary because pastors are God’s representatives on Earth. To that man, my question is this: What are your parents? Devil’s representative? No blessing on Earth is greater than parent’s blessing. After God, parents”
Omokri’s remarks call into question the importance of a religious wedding, although he emphasises the importance of parental approval and their role in the marriage.
However, many individuals disagreed with him, and some did so for genuine reasons.
