We’ll get our democracy right, says Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, stated on Thursday that Nigerians will continue to experiment with democracy until they get it right.Infomation Guide Nigeria

He admonished Nigerians not to be fooled by persons who promised to come and fix the problems with democracy.

This was disclosed at the public presentation and launch of Adesina Adetola’s book, “Nigeria and Democratic Governance: The Seats, Battles, and Prospects.”

Tinubu, who was represented by a former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro, at the event held in Lagos, said, Democracy is a marathon. It is not a sprint. It is an experiment that will transcend several lifetime. We make mistakes, we correct ourselves and we move on.

“I remember in 1983 when Ajasin and Omoboriowo’s matter started, and there was riot and pandemonium in Ondo State. It was not strong enough to result in a military takeover but that was what we saw. The same with Afolabi and Bola Ige. And since 1999 till date, we have had several contentious relationships between governors and their deputies, but this has strengthened our democracy.”
