According to Iranian official media, Amou Haji, who was known as the “dirtiest man in the world,” passed away at the age of 94 on Sunday in the town of Dejgah.

Haji stated he did not shower for around 67 years out of fear that it would bring him bad luck and make him ill.

A few months before to his death, Haji was washed in a bathroom by villagers, as reported by the local press.

IRNA news agency wrote: “Not long after, he fell ill and finally, on Sunday… he gave up his life.”

Haji was depicted covered in grime and soot, and he reputedly disliked soap and water. Apparently, he loathed even the concept of showering.

Not only did Haji refuse to bathe, but he also refused to eat fresh fruit or drink, subsisting on rotting porcupine and up to five litres of rusty oil can water per day. Instead of tobacco, he smoked dry animal faeces from a pipe.

A few months before to his death, locals who were worried for his wellbeing built him a brick shack and persuaded him to take a shower after learning he was lonely owing to a lack of acquaintances.

Despite his unconventional lifestyle, Haji maintained remarkable good health. A group of experts lead by Dr. Gholamreza Mowlavi, a professor at the Tehran School of Public Health, screened Haji for infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis earlier this year.

They were astonished to discover that Haji had no bacterial or parasitic illnesses, with the exception of Trichinosis, which is caused by eating raw meat and for which he had no symptoms.Jamb Result

After years of living in such deplorable conditions, doctors believed that he must have developed a formidable immune system.
