‘The goal is clearly offside!’ – Gavi’s winner for Spain has Norway coach Stale Solbakken fuming as their Euro 2024 hopes are dashed

Barcelona midfielder Gavi scored the decisive goal in the second half, allowing the 2008 and 2012 European champions to advance with two matches remaining. For Stale Solbakken’s Norway, who last participated in a major tournament at Euro 2000, their only remaining chance of advancing is through the play-offs. However, Solbakken expressed frustration after the game, believing that Gavi’s goal was offside.

“The goal is clearly offside because Gavi jumps away from the ball and he is half a meter offside,” Solbakken stated to the media [via VG].JAMB Result
Despite the narrow 1-0 defeat, support for Solbakken is waning. He was appointed as the national team coach to end a prolonged period of poor results, and he also has the talents of Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland at his disposal. Both Odegaard, who plays for Arsenal, and Haaland, who plays for Manchester City, now face the possibility of missing another international tournament after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Norway’s Euro hopes are not entirely extinguished, as they could still reach the playoffs through their Nations League ranking.
