Nigeria or Africa as a whole have not been very popular when it comes to Technology. As a matter of fact, for the past four decades or more Africa solely depended on importing technology from other continent, but after some time now Nigeria have started growing and developing with their indigenous technology partnering on most occasions with foreign bodies to come up with something interesting recently.
So let’s take a look at some of the indigenous technological companies who have made their mark in the country so far.
1. Globacom Nigeria
Globacom Nigeria popular known as Glo is proudly own by one of us Mr Mike Adenuga. Launched in August 2003, Globacom started it operation on the 29 August 2003 and have since then become one of the leading telecommunication industry in Nigeria.
Globacom Headquarters is located at the Mike Adenuga Towers, No. 1 Mike Adenuga close, off Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island Lagos.
Globacom Nigeria have over time now expanded to other African countries like Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Benin Republic employing directly more than 3000 people in the process.
Globacom has been very popular this days for their large volume of data going for very little amount, in fact this have won them more subscribers than any other mobile operators here in Nigeria.
2. Google Nigeria
Founded way back in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergy Brin, Google have gone on to be one of the largest technological company and the largest search engine in the world. Googles Nigerian office is located at Rewane Ikoyi, in Lagos.
With the Nigeria domain (google.com.ng) you can make searches with our local languages like Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and Pidgin specifically build for Nigeria.
3. MTN Nigeria
MTN is originally a south African technological company. MTN Nigeria started it operation in the country in 2001 and has since become the leading telecommunication company in Nigeria.
They have their head office located at the Golden plaza, Ikoyi, in Lagos. Recent statistics have shown that this telecommunication giant (MTN) currently have more subscribers than any other mobile operators in Nigeria.
MTN Nigeria have been very famous on their cheap call rate allowing them to topple every other telecommunication companies operating in the country.
4. InterSwitch Limited
Interswitch was founded in 2002 by Mitchell Elegbe who previously worked for Telnet Nigeria as the head of Marketing and Business solutions. 60% of the company was later stake in Bankom Uganda in 2011. Interswitch Nigeria has it head office Lagos state Nigeria.
Currently the owners of the most used debit card (Verve Card), this technology (Interswitch) uses infrastructure to connect the different banks in Nigeria and equally provides the technology the runs the ATM.
The verve card as one of the interswtich product have recently been lunch in Kenya, meaning the technology is speedily expanding.

Etisalat as formerly called originated from the United Arab Emirates but have been operating in many African countries for years now.
In 2017, 14th july precisely, the company changed its name to 9Mobile Nigeria meaning it has sold most of its right to the new Nigerian owners. 9Mobile has its headquarters located at Eti Osa in Lagos.
9Mobile main strength surely has to be their data signal, the 9Mobile more blaze data speed is simply the fastest allowing you to browse and download as fast you can imagine.
6. Ericsson Nigeria
Ericsson Nigeria is currently one of the leading information and communication technology company in Nigeria. Domiciled in Sweden, Ericsson have been operating in many continent and countries of the world.
This company have been giant in the world of telecommunication, mobile, fixed broadband, business support, video system and much more. The Ericsson Nigerian head office is located at Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ericsson develop, deliver and also manage telecommunication networks by providing software, hardware and other valuable services to enable the full value of connectivity.
Huawei technological company limited is another giant in the telecommunication industry. This company originated from China as a networking, telecommunication and services company. Huawei has their head office situated in Shenzhen, Guangdong in China.
Huawei currently operates in up to 170 countries in the world and have employed more than 180,000 people directly in the process.
Huawei has an open collaboration with ecosystem partners, creating a long lasting value for their customers, working to empower lots of people and to enrich life.
eTranzact is an indigenous company owned by Mr Valentine Obi. eTranzact is one of the indigenous financial company that has got an approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria to operate in the country. In fact most of the online payment now in Nigeria including banks is being powered on the eTransact platform.
Lunched in September 2003, eTranzact is currently operating in countries like Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast and has even expanded its brand to the UK in the quest to conquer the world.
Presently eTranzact is in partnership with 70 universties in Nigeria, Government Parastals, banks, ICT and aviation companies etc.
MainOne is a powerful, indigenous communication company. They are the leading provider of innovative telecom services and network solution for businesses here in Nigeria and in west Africa.
