The acronym, CEAN, stands for the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria. The Association however, was established in 2013, and it was on March 7, to be précised. How did this professional body came to be?

There was a group of computer educators, who lived in Nsukka. These computer educators have to come together, and then considered it most important and necessary to establish a professional body, that is national, for the purpose of promoting Computer Education in the country.

They did this by making sure that, guidelines that would be used for the training of teachers and other associated officials are followed properly and strictly.

The Computer Educators Association of Nigeria is a professional body that has been registered, and the Associate was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria.

The Computer Educators Association of Nigeria has its Certificate of Incorporation. It has about six members that have been registered and served as members of the Board of Trustees of the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria.

Over the years, the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria has been doing very well and waxing stronger with about seventy members, who have registered with the professional body.

Since its inauguration however, the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria has been working assiduously with a view to growing and developing the Association.

Nevertheless, the Association, at formation, was assigned some functions, of which, if carried out properly will help grow the Association, and also help in achieving its aims and objectives. In this article, I will be discussing quite a number of its functions.

Below are the functions of the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria:

1. Participates In Curriculum Development For Studies Related To Computer

Computer, being a subject or a course of study needed to have guidelines, and in this case, a curriculum that guides computer educators on how to go about teaching computer.

And so, as a professional body, which serves as the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria, it has a function of making sure that, it participate in the development of computer studies curriculum.

Therefore, one primary function of the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria is to participate in the development of curriculum for computer studies.

2. Drives The Process Of Development Of Software And Evaluation

The Computer Educators Association of Nigeria engages in software development. In maximizing its functions, the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria do helps in making sure that, it drives the process by which, softwares are developed.

5. Publishes Articles In Computer Education Research Journal

I have said here earlier that, one primary function of the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria is to organized conferences and workshops annually.

It is at such conferences, that scholarly articles are presented. These articles presented at the annual conferences are being subjected to what they called ‘blind review’.

After such review, the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria has to then publish the articles in Computer Education Research Journal.

This Computer Education Research Journal of the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria is registered with the National Library, and it is the function of the Association to make sure that the Journal is registered with serial number, for example, the recognized International Serial Series Number.

6. Promotes Functional Computer Education

The Computer Educators Association of Nigeria also promotes functional computer education. This functional computer education is promoted at every level of education within the country.

So, another primary function of the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria is to make computer education accessible to all Nigerians, from nursery schools to primary schools, up to post primary, to tertiary institutions within Nigeria, through promotion of functional computer education.

7. Trains And Retrains Computer Teachers On Relevant Skills

Training of staff members or organization employees, is one core function of any organization that wants to fly. Staff members are trained to keep them up to date with the current trend of doing thing particularly, in this digital age, and so, the Computer Education Association of Nigeria is not left out.

One key function of the Computer Educators Association of Nigeria is to train computer’s educators, and retrained them in order to upgrade their skills and knowledge, so that, they can discharge their duties effectively.

The Computer Educators Association of Nigeria must make sure that, these teachers trained, are trained in relevant skills in computer at every level of education within the country.
