JAMB: why I,456 candidates who scored above 300 in UTME didn’t get admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board broke the news that 1,456 candidates who scored 300 and above in the last year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) unfortunately were not admitted into tertiary institutions for the 2020/2021 admission year. Information Guides Nigeria

The board registrar confirmed that out of 4,948 applicants who scored 300 and above, only 3,492 have been admitted into various institutions, with the remaining 1,456 unable to sail through the process. JAMB Result

During one of Oloyede’s presentations tagged “Titbits on 2020 admission and 2021 UTME,” he also disclosed that about 52,323 candidates had between 250 and 299 in the exam out of which 22,580 were not admitted. WAEC result

In that presentation, he attributed the impotency of candidates who scored high in UTME  to gain admission into higher institutions to factors such as low post-UTME screening scores and wrong subject combination in O’level.

Looking at other factors, the JAMB boss also included the inflexibility of candidates who often insist on a particular programme, duplication of application, and UTME-combination deficiency. JAMB form

In conclusion, the board registrar added that the development could also be due to the failure of candidates to upload their O’level with five credits in the required subjects, absence from post-UTME screening, and mismatch of catchment institutions.
