Court remands teenagers over murder of RCCG pastor

On Thursday, a Lagos High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square remanded Farouk Mohammed, 16, and Kasali Jamiu, 19, to the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, and the Ikoyi Custody Centre, respectively.

Justice Sherifat Sonaike remanded them after they were accused with the murder of Pastor Babatunde Dada, 46, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.Informaion Guide Nigeria

On January 12, 2022, the couple and two others, Mumuni Toheeb, 21, and Mubarak Soliu, 20, were accused in a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining a Spark S Techno phone valued at N60,000 that belonged to the dead.

On February 14, when the matter was heard, Chief Magistrate Olatunbosun Adeola stated that a prima facie case against Mohammed and Jamiu had been established.

The suspects were charged with four offences bordering on murder conspiracy, murder, robbery conspiracy, and armed robbery.

Martins told the court that the defendants conspired and allegedly murdered Dada in the RCCG, Road 13, 6th Avenue, FESTAC neighbourhood of Lagos on December 2, 2021, around midday.

He stated that the deceased was killed by being struck on the head with a wooden plank and a bottle.

The prosecution also informed the court that the couple stole a purse and a mobile phone from the victim.

After being arraigned, the defendants entered not guilty pleas to the charges.Jamb Result 

In light of their pleadings, Justice Sonaike ordered their detention and postponed the trial until November 29.
