Delta trains 145 youths in cassava farming

The government of Delta State has provided 145 young people with farm equipment, cassava stem, financial support, and other incentives in an effort to increase food production in the state.Infomation Guide Nigeria

When presenting the materials to the first group of 145 youths for the 2022 empowerment circle, Prof. Eric Eboh, the state’s Chief Job and Wealth Creation Officer, advised them to familiarise themselves with worldwide best practises in agriculture production.

He said, YAGEP was inaugurated on the 26th of August 2015, with the aim at creating jobs and wealth by training, establishing and supporting youths to become agricultural entrepreneurs gainfully self-employed and employers of labour.

Eboh said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme was a major initiative to generate employment and income.

Since 2015, he noted, the government has helped thousands of young people get started in agriculture-related fields such poultry farming, crop farming, pig farming, fish farming, agro-processing, and agribusiness.

Eboh stated that YAGEP had donated a wide variety of food items, including 3,084.40 metric tonnes of cassava roots, 2,298.46 metric tonnes of poultry, 72,280,767 eggs, and 6,682.91 metric tonnes of fish.
