Ex-footballer trafficks cocaine after failed career in Brazil

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency agents detained exfootballer Okafor Junior at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, upon his arrival from Sao Paulo, Brazil, through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on board an Ethiopian Airlines flight with 1.40 kilogrammes of crack cocaine.Infomation Guide Nigeria

The 33-year-old native of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State, was apprehended on Monday, September 26, 2022, after antidrug authorities discovered that he concealed the illegal substance in the handles and top edges of his bags.

In a statement released on Sunday, the spokesperson for the anti-corruption agency, Femi Babafemi, stated that during an initial interview, Okafor disclosed that he was a former footballer for the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu FC, where he played for four seasons before leaving for Sri Lanka in 2014.

Mrs. Pamela Odin, a 32-year-old entrepreneur, attempted to smuggle 2.150 kilogrammes of rohypnol tablets through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to Istanbul, Turkey, but NDLEA agents prevented her from doing so.

The woman was apprehended on Friday, September 23, as she attempted to board a Turkish airline flight with the narcotic hidden in pepper and packed among food items.

The native of Afiesere village, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, reportedly stated that she maintained a restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey, but travelled to Nigeria to visit her relatives and purchase supplies for her restaurant.
