FG reopens Dangote Cement, parties to continue talks

The Dangote Cement Plant in Obajana, Kogi State, has reopened after having been closed by the Kogi State Government due to questions regarding the legitimacy of the company’s acquisition of the defunct Obajana Cement Company.Infomation Guide Nigeria

The development followed Friday’s directive by the National Security Council to restart the cement mill.

The Minister of the Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, informed the media that an agreement had been made between the Dangote Group and the Kogi State Government over the reopening of the factory, and he urged both parties to honour the deal.

The plant reopened following a 10day dispute between the parties regarding the legitimacy of the acquisition of the cement mill.In a series of announcements released by its Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Government asserted that the acquisition of the cement plant by Africa’s wealthiest man did not adhere to legal requirements.

The state government, supported by its House of Assembly, said that the process surrounding the acquisition of the plant constituted asset appropriation.

According to a statement by DIL, Kogi State had no equity stake in Obajana Cement Plc.

The statement claimed that the plant and machinery were planned, designed, obtained, constructed, and paid for by DIL alone, well after it had acquired Obajana Cement Company’s shares.Jamb Result 

The business added that the property on which the Obajana Cement Plant is constructed was acquired by Dangote Industries Limited alone in 2003 and that annual taxes have been paid to the Kogi Government since production began in 2007.

Involved in the fight were also the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, the Trade Union Congress, and the Shareholders Associations in Nigeria.
