The plant reopened following a 10–day dispute between the parties regarding the legitimacy of the acquisition of the cement mill.In a series of announcements released by its Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Government asserted that the acquisition of the cement plant by Africa’s wealthiest man did not adhere to legal requirements.
The state government, supported by its House of Assembly, said that the process surrounding the acquisition of the plant constituted asset appropriation.
According to a statement by DIL, Kogi State had no equity stake in Obajana Cement Plc.
The business added that the property on which the Obajana Cement Plant is constructed was acquired by Dangote Industries Limited alone in 2003 and that annual taxes have been paid to the Kogi Government since production began in 2007.
Involved in the fight were also the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, the Trade Union Congress, and the Shareholders Associations in Nigeria.
