Panic ensued on the River Niger Bridge in Onitsha on Tuesday evening after an explosion erupted due to a head-on collision involving a petrol-laden tanker and another vehicle.
Eyewitnesses at the scene claimed that the accident, which ignited around 9 pm, was a result of the tanker driver’s alleged reckless driving. Fortunately, no lives were claimed in the ensuing fire. However, the raging flames caused significant disruption on the bridge.JAMB Portal

Anambra State Fire Chief, Martin Agbili, confirmed the incident, noting that the fire was successfully extinguished by 9:30 pm. The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by vehicles transporting flammable materials and emphasizes the importance of safe driving practices.

“The information is correct, but the fire had already been put out around 9:30pm. It was a head-on collision between two vehicles and the fire was ignited.
“Firefighters and other rescue operators battled to quench the fire and no life was lost. The bridge was not damaged. There is no need for panic.”InformationGuideNigeria
Similarly, a fallen petrol tanker at Awkuzu also caused a serious gridlock as commuters struggled to access their various locations on Tuesday.

He said, “At about 7.30am of today 31-10-2023, Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call of a fallen petrol tanker at Awkuzu.
