The Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Association, COMTUA, has cancelled its planned withdrawal of service from the nation’s ports due to threats by thugs to hijack the demonstration.Infomation Guide Nigeria
Comrade Adeyinka Aroyewun, president of COMTUA, told Vanguard that the organisation received intelligence that some thugs were paid to disrupt and hijack the protest, causing the organisation to retreat and re-strategize.
Aroyewun added that COMTUA had an extraordinary meeting early in the morning after observing that the Military has begun to comply with the protocol and procedure for entering and exiting ports to load commodities.
A portion of the Council‘s statement goes as follows: “At an Extraordinary leadership meeting of COMTUA convened early this morning, the following resolution was reached.

“That an assessment of the activities of the military trucks on the road in the last one week shows, that they have started complying with the time belt and they no longer drive against traffic; and That the association shall continue to engage relevant government agencies on issues affecting the industry.”
