The Nigerian Army, being the largest component of the Nigerian Armed Forces is charged with responsibility to defend the country and its borders in ground combats.

It was founded in 1960 and has the reputation of being one of the best on the African Continent. The army has over 200,000 personnel and these personnel are scattered all over the country in army barracks which serve as housing and offices.

List of Army Barracks in Nigeria

The following is the list of army barracks in the country with their location:

1. Katsina Barracks (Katsina State)

The 35 Battalion Katsina Barracks was founded on 14th April, 2016. It is located along Jibia Road in the city of Katsina which is the capital of Katsina State.

2. Keffi Barracks

The 177 Guard Battallion is located along Jos-Abuja Road in Keffi. It is currently called Shittu Alao Barracks, Keffi in Nasarawa State.

3. Okitipupa Barracks

This is a 19 Battallion Barracks located in Okitipupa, Ondo State. Its current name is Naquora Army Barracks, 19 Battallion Okitipupa Ondo.

4. Calabar Barracks

This is a 13 Brigade Barracks located in Calabar, Cross River State. It is currently known as Akim Army Barracks, Calabar.

5. Onitsha Barracks

This is military Cantonement Onitsha in Anambra State.

6. Lafenwa Barracks

This is also refered to as Nyangoa Barracks, Lafenwa, Abeokuta in Ogun State.

7. Ekenwan Barracks

This located in Ovia North, Benin City, the capital of Edo State. It is the 4 Brigade Army Headquarters in the State.

8. Makurdi Barracks

This barracks houses the 72 Special Force Battalion in Makurdi. It is also refered to as the Naites Nasme Barracks, Makurdi in Benue State.

9. Abakpa Barracks

This barracks is home to the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, making it a major barracks in the country. It is located in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State.

10. Awkunanu Barracks

This located in Akwunanu town, Enugu State.

11. Ikeja Barracks

This is also referred to as Ikeja Cantonement. It is located in Ikeja, Lagos, Lagos State.

12. Ojo Barracks

This is located in Tedi Village, Ojo in Lagos. It is referred to as Ojo Cantonment in Lagos.

13. Rukuba Barracks

This is referred to as the 3rd Armoured Division, Rukuba Cantonment, Rukuba, in Plateau Sate. It was renamed in 2003 as Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba.

14. Odogbo Barracks

This is referred to as odoko-Idogbo Army Barracks, Ibadan. It houses the headquarters of the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan.

15. Bori Camp

The Nigerian Army Bori Camp is located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

16. Abalti Barracks

Abalti Barracks is located in Surulere, Lagos. It is the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corp.

17. Dodan Barracks

Dodan Barracks is located in Lagos Off Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. It was the supreme headquarters of the military in 1966 and served as home to many top army officers in the past.

18. Arakan Barracks

Arakan Barracks is the seat of the Nigerian Army Finance Corp. it also houses the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration. It is located in Apapa, Lagos, Lagos State.

19. Tego Barracks

Tego Barracks is located on Bonny Street, Badia in Lagos. It is the home of Nigerian Army School of Intelligence.

20. Beho Beho Barracks

Beho Beho Barracks is also located in Lagos, Lagos State.

21. Marda Barracks

Marda Barracks is located in Yaba, Lagos opposite Healthy Pulse Pharmacy and Supermarket, 346 Herbert Macaulay Street, yaba, Lagos.

22. Ashanti Barracks

Ashanti barracks is located in Lagos along Mobil Road, Ajegunle.

23. Letmauk Barracks

Letmauk Barracks is home to the 4th Battalion in Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State.

24. Bukavu Barracks

Bakavu Barracks houses the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army. It is located in the city of Kano, Kano State.

25. Kotoko Barracks

Kotoko Barracks is located in Kaduna, Kaduna State.

26. Dalet Barracks

Dalet Barracks is the headquarters of 1 Division, in Kaduna. It is located at Kawo in Kaduna, Kaduna State.

27. Mogadishu Barracks

Mogadishu Barracks is located in Abuja. It is also called Abacha Barracks.

33. Giwa and Maimalari Barracks

Is the headquarters of 7 Division of Nigerian Army. It is located in the city of Maiduguri in Borno State.

34. Fort Nagwamatse

Fort Nagwamatse Barracks is located in Kontagora, Niger State.

35. Obienu Barracks

Obienu Barracks is located in Bauchi, Bauchi State.

36. Ejoor Barracks (Effurun/Warri, Delta State)

Ejoor Barracks is home of the 3 Battalion of Nigerian Army. It is located in Effurun, Warri, Delta State.

37. W.U Bassey Barracks

W.U Bassey Barracks is located in the FCT in Abuja on Murtala Mohamed Way next to Sheraton Hotel.

38. Fort IBB

Is also located in the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

39 Yakubu Gowon Barracks

Yakubu Gowon Barracks is located in Abuja. It is home to the Guards Brigade Medical Centre. In the FCT.

40. Aguiyi-Ironsi Barracks

Aguiyi Irosi Barracks also known as Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment is located in Asokoro, Abuja.
