Court Postpones Case Seeking Cross River State Governor’s Removal

The Federal High Court, Abuja Division has postponed the judgment in a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party against Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State.Information Guide Nigeria

According to PEOPLES GAZETTE, it was gathered from Court 7 that the judgment, fixed for today, March 25 by Justice Taiwo Taiwo has been postponed to April 6, 2023.

Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party, through its counsel Emmanuel Ukala, had filed the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/975/2021 before the court to seeking the removal of Governor Ben Ayade and his Deputy following their defection to the All Progressives Congress, among others.

According to PEOPLES GAZETTE, Justice Taiwo, in the judgment, dismissed the defence argument that the PDP (plaintiff) had no locus standi (legal rights) to institute the case.

PEOPLES GAZETTE reports that Justice Taiwo Taiwo had ordered two House of Representatives members representing Cross River and 18 lawmakers from the Cross River State House of Assembly to vacate their seats for defecting to All Progressives Congress.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo said, “A day must surely come when elected officials must either resign from their office or ask the people who voted for them before defecting to other political parties, instead of defecting to another party without recourse to the law and the citizens.”

As reported by PEOPLES GAZETTE, the affected federal lawmakers are Michael Etaba representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, and Legor Idagbor representing Obudu/Obaliku/Bekwarra Federal Constituency of Cross River State.Jamb Result

The 18 state legislators include the speaker Eteng Williams; Mich Etaba, Legor Idagbor, Joseph Bassey, Odey Agbe and Okon Ephraim, Regina Anyogo, Matthew Olory, Ekpo Bassey, Ogbor Udop, and Ekpe Okon.

Others are Hillary Bisong, Francis Asuquo, Elvert Ayambem, Davis Etta, Sunday Achunekan, Cynthia Nkasi, Edward Ajang, Chris Ogar and Maria Akwaji.
