1. Bilateral Education Agreement Awards (BEA)
The Nigerian government runs this scheme in agreement with 12 countries, namely:

Candidates for this scholarship programme are selected on merit by the Nigerian Scholarship Board from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory through an examination conducted in collaboration with the state government officials.

Mode of examination
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board conducts the computer-based examination for the BEA scholarship awards. JAMB releases the results indicating the candidates’ states of origin and performance. The NSB then presents a data from which the donor countries pick the beneficiaries.
Call for application
Applications for the awards open in December and closes at the end of January. Candidates are allowed to choose two countries only.
Eligibility
An applicant must possess five distinctions in school certificate examination or general certificate of education at one sitting, including in Mathematics and English.
The Federal Scholarship Board however, said this process is under review because many Nigerian students don’t pass English and Mathematics with distinction.
The applicant cannot write the scholarship examination as an independent candidate, but in the school attended by the applicant and with another condition: at first attempt.
The applicant’s ordinary level certificate must be two years old only.
2. The Nigerian Award
This is the award the federal government designed for Nigerians according to their states of origin but they are not given at entry level.
Criteria
The students can only apply after completing 100 level with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 on a scale of 5. Simply, each candidate must score 80 percent average score in all the courses. When the beneficiary’s CGPA drops from 80 percent, the candidate forfeits the scholarship automatically.

2. Commonwealth Awards
The FSB said the applicant can only fill the form on the federal scholarship website when the Commonwealth secretariat demands the opening of the website. The award is for candidates from country belonging to The commonwealth.
The selection for the awards is done through the FSB but the Commonwealth sponsors everything.

The application opens in December and is concluded in March.
Eligibility
Commonwealth Awards is for postgraduates and doctorate degree applicants only.
Applicants must possess Second Class Upper to apply for the post-graduate studies.
For doctorate degree, a candidate must possess second class upper at B.Sc level and a second class upper at Masters level.

3. Mexican Government Scholarship for International Students
The Mexican government has over the years partnered with the federal government of Nigeria through its Federal Ministry of Education to accept Nigerian Students into its scholarship programme .
This year, the Mexican government is now accepting applications for its 2019 Scholarship program from qualified international students, including Nigerian students. The deadline for submission of application for Mexican Government Scholarship is 28th September, 2018.
4. Duration of the Mexican Government Scholarship
Undergraduate and graduate academic mobility programs- one academic term (quarter, trimester or semester)
a. Graduate research and postdoctoral fellowships-12 months (1 month minimum)
b. Specialization-1 year
c. Master’s degree- 2 Years
d. Doctorate- 3 years
e. Medical specialties and sub specialties- 3 Years

Mexican Government Scholarship Requirements:
a. The scholarships for academic studies are offered to take complete programs for Specialization, Master’s or PhD Degrees, and Postgraduate Researches. Likewise, the offer includes academic mobility for Bachelor’s and Postgraduate Degree.
b. On the other hand, the scholarships for special programs are offered preferred to take short-term fellowships addressed to Visiting Professors, Researchers in Mexico’s issues, Media Contributors, Art Production Fellowships, etc.
c. Candidates cannot be living in Mexico at the time of application.
d. Except in special cases, scholarships cannot begin in November or December.
e. Requests for information and all scholarship applications must be submitted to the following places : the Mexican embassy or concurrent embassy of the applicant’s country or to the designated Mexican institution. Only applications that fulfill all of the requirements will be considered.
f. All documents and forms must be in Spanish or submitted with translations into Spanish.
g. Candidates will be informed of the results by the corresponding Mexican embassy or designated Mexican institution.
The scholarships are not transferable and cannot be deferred to future years.
Benefits of the Mexican Government Scholarship
Monthly stipend of 4 (four) times the value of the unit of Measure and Actualization (UMA) for Undergraduate mobility scholarships, Specializations, Master’s degrees or Master’s-level research, Spanish language or Mexican culture courses.
During 2018, the stipend was calculated with the minimum salary in Mexico City and was equivalent of $9,604.80 pesos (approximately USD 529.77)
a. Monthly stipend of 5 (five) times the value of The Unit of Measure and Actualization (UMA) for Doctoral programs and Research periods, Postdoctoral fellowships and Medical specialities and subspecialties. During 2018, the stipend was calculated with the minimum salary in Mexico City and was equivalent of $12,066.00 Mexican pesos (approximately USD $665.52).

b. Monthly stipends are not divisible or partial. The Scholarships will be paid at the end of each month.
c. Registration fees and tuition, as established by the program at each institution ,subject to the final decision of the participating HEI, established in the letter of acceptance.
d. Health insurance from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), starting the third month of the scholarship. The Scholarship recipient must have health insurance that covers both major and minor medical expenses and provides international coverage for the first three months in Mexico.
e. The cost of the temporary resident/student visa issuance, for stays longer than 180 days.
f. Depending on the reciprocity with the partner country, it will be included a round-trip international airfare at the beginning and/or satisfactory term of the scholarship. The air ticket will be purchased in economy class and will be considered the most convenient flight route for the Academic Exchange Office.
g. Should the recipient of the scholarship is pursuing studies outside Mexico City, transportation from Mexico City to the host institution and back will be provided, at the start and end of his/her academic activities.
5. University of Dundee Grower Peace Foundation Africa Scholarship
The University of Dundee, in partnership with Leymah Gbowee Foundation, is now accepting applications from Liberians, Nigerians, Ghanaians for its 2018 Scholarship.
The deadline for submission of application for University of Dundee Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa Scholarship is 17th November, 2018.

c. You must be permanently resident in Liberia, Nigeria or Ghana at the time of your application

How to Apply for the Scholarship
Applicants must first assess their eligibility against the criteria listed above. They can then download and complete the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa Scholarship Application Form and return by the deadline to [email protected] using ‘Gbowee Scholarship Application’ as the subject.
With their application form, they must also submit documentation to support their citizenship and permanent residence.
Applicants must ensure they include their Applicant ID numbers in all communications, as we cannot accept applications for this scholarship if they have not yet been made an offer of entry to the University of Dundee.
