Nigerian contemporary high-life maestro and hip hop singer Chinedu Okoli who goes by the pseudonym Flavour Nabiana can be best described as the Nigerian king of high life music, dancer and instrumentalist.
He sings fluently in Igbo and has established himself as highly talented and one of Africa’s finest artist. He was born into a fairly large polygamous home on the 23rd of November 1983 in Enugu state but hails from Umunze in Orumba South local government area in Anambra State.
While growing up, he developed a passion for playing drums, he was an ardent drummer for his church choir in Enugu all through his teenage years in Enugu.
When he turned nineteen he doubled as a pianist, key boardist and drummer for a local band. His pastor introduced him to Chris Ordor, the CEO of sound city communication who just started operating a musical outfit aimed at grooming young musicians and talents to professional levels.
He offered Flavour a scholarship to study music while at sound city, where he served as a back up singer for other musicians at the company.
In 2005, he came through with his debut album which was self titled, he worked with Mr Raw, Kingsley Ogoro and Obiano music to produce the album which turned out a partial success as it was limited to the Eastern part of Nigeria, Enugu state to be precise.
Five years later, he put in some effort and birthed his second album which he titled “Uplifted”. It fared much better than the first and introduced him to the entire Nigeria and South Africa where a record label “Lolhiphop Records released the album on popular demand. “Uplifted” produced several hit singles, one of which featured Nigerian leading female art Tiwa Savage.
In 2012, Flavour released his third studio album under his own label “2nite Entertainment” in conjunction with “iRocking Limited”.
Music critics considered his third album “Blessed” to be his first big album and perhaps the biggest till date, he teamed up with talented Nigerian producers like Selebobo, Del B and MasterKraft to release it on the 18th of October 2012, the same day he officially opened his night club “2nite Club” in Enugu.
The album featured Wizkid and Fally Ipupa and had very massive singles like “Ada Ada” (a wedding song), “Baby Oku”, “Ikworikwo” and “Kwarikwa” which was a controversial single as Ghanaian duo “Wutah” claimed that the single was a replica of their own single “Kotosa” as it had the same rhythm, chorus and tempo.
Flavour’s third album “Thankful” was released in 2014 under 2nite Entertainment, the album just like the previous ones was a fusion of igbo highlife, Afro Pop, Dance and R&B genres.
It was huge commercial success and had hit singles like “Golibe” a beautiful love ballad, “Olulofe” featuring Chidimma, “Wake Up” featuring Wande Coal, “Wiser” featuring M.I Abaga and Phyno.
In June 2017, the igbo highlife crooner released his fifth studio album “Ijele the traveler”. The seventeen tracked album has so far been commercially successful with ”Iheneme”, Ijele”, “Most High”, “Jaiye” as popular hits.
He is currently touring the world with the album. The singer has two lovely daughters from his relationships with ex beauty queen Anna Banner and with model and actress Sandra Okhagbue. He was rumoured to be dating co singer Chidinma.
