Local news sites report that Victoria Korsiak, a senior social development specialist with the World Bank in Abuja, made this revelation during a recent workshop that brought together parties working to advance Nigeria’s digital ID goals. The purpose of the session was to explore the digital ID journey in Nigeria, the existing state of things, obstacles, and future opportunities.

Already, the World Bank is one of three international agencies that have provided funds for the Nigeria Identity for Development (ID4D) initiative’s development of Nigeria’s digital ID ecosystem.

According to Korsiak, who was quoted by the Voice of Nigeria, the Bretton Woods institution must assist Nigeria in expanding the issuance of the national identification number (NIN) in an inclusive manner, as the federal government and other agencies have recognized the significance of digital ID in facilitating access to important government and private sector services.JAMB portal

Korsiak noted that despite the fact that Nigeria has already issued more than 90 million NINs, the process still faces numerous obstacles, such as difficult access to certain areas, inadequate sensitization and awareness on the importance of digital ID, and questions of trust in terms of data privacy and protection.

During the session, the coordinator of the Nigeria ID4D project, Musa Solomon Idole, underlined the project’s objective, which is to establish a solid biometric identification system.

Musa also discussed the actions previously done to strengthen the legal framework governing the digital ID project, noting that the implementation of a personal data protection law is crucial to the process.

The Nigeria ID4D has engaged in a variety of activities aimed at establishing a more inclusive and expansive digital ID landscape for the nation. Recently, the organization issued a request for proposals for a consultant to provide various digital ID infrastructure management services.JAMB Result
