So I strongly recommend you conduct a research on the business, writing out how much it will cost to set up, to maintain and prospective income from the business.

Gain knowledge in various computer programs and courses that are useful in the business world. Some of such programs include; word processing, presentation, database and spreadsheet programs, are ubiquitous across most industries, so learning to use them in every aspect may prove beneficial to you and your student.

Raise Sufficient Capital

Starting a computer school is really capital intensive, due to the numerous raw materials needed. However, with about One million naira, excluding your office rent, you should be able to set up a conducive and standard computer school. There are so many ways to raise this capital, I will give you hints on a few.

You can check out Tech blogs regularly, to find out when there is an organization ready to sponsor any company in Nigeria.

You can also acquire this capital from investors that will want to see your business plan, for them to invest and probably hold a share in the company.

There is always an option of family and friends, you can meet them to help you raise sufficient funds to start your business, through contributions.

Rent/Buy a property

Depending on your budget, you can decide to either buy or rent a suitable office for your business. This office doesn’t have to be the size of a football stadium, however, make sure it is not too small either because that is where you will be storing all your equipment and learning tool.

I strongly advise that you rent or buy a property in the urban territory of your environment, nobody wants to trek into a village just to attend a computer tutorial.

Purchase the Required Facilities

By facilities, I also mean furniture, learning tools and obviously computers. To start a computer school, you need to ensure that you can provide power supply throughout your students’ classes, and since Nigerian Electricity sector is epileptic, it is paramount that you purchase a generator set.

A good generator set capable of carrying the voltage load of 20 computer set, goes for about 50 to 60,000 naira. It is advisable that you purchase desktops, instead of laptops.

Register Your Business

No government takes education likely, no matter the type or form. So to make sure you are not harassed by any government agency, I will strongly advise that you register your business with all the required agencies.

First of all, visit any CAC office closest to you, tell them you want to register your business and they will present you with a form to fill.

The first and most important reason why people register their business is for something called corporate personality.

Under Nigerian law, there is a legal framework where a company is deemed to be a separate legal entity from the individual(s) who created/run it. Therefore the company has powers to enter into contracts, buy property, own property etc.

Employ Lecturers

This is a very crucial part of your business, bad employees can ruin a business faster than poor funding or other problems.

You will want to employ capable graduates in computer-related fields, who have not only the skill to teach but the patience to impart knowledge on individuals with little or no knowledge of computers.

I will advise you go for graduates instead of ordinary diploma holders when prospective students see that you are professional enough to employ first degree holders, they will most likely choose your computer training school.

Market your business
