Whenever somethings happen that the students are not happy with, they go into protest. They forget that these protests have some effects on them and society. The effects of such protests include:

1. Killings

Whenever students go on a rampage, the authorities attract security agents. These security agents clash with the protesters. In doing so, some of the protesters may be killed. The students that have been killed can no longer live to get what they wanted. They have wasted their lives due to protests. They have gained nothing.

2. Destruction of Properties

Students’ protests lead to the destruction of properties. They destroy school properties. They destroy cars and other things. Replacing the properties that they have destroyed will be difficult. Thus, they have only succeeded in drawing the school backwards.

If the school continues, the amenities that they would have enjoyed will no longer be there. Therefore, they have harmed themselves. This means that students protest does not bring progress. Rather, it brings backwardness or stagnation.

From all indications, students protest only harms them. They hardly get what they want through protests. In all, they are the ones that suffer. No other person is punished together with them.

One thing that the students of the higher institutions in Nigeria do not always consider is the fact that their study time is fixed. They have two semesters in a school year. Nigerian students who engage in protests do not know what they are doing to themselves. The head of state can never go back to the classroom to learn. No minister is going back to the higher institution to learn. None of the lecturers is dreaming of becoming an undergraduate tomorrow. The higher institutions are meant for them. They had better make good use of their time instead of engaging in meaningless protests.

5. Poor Educational Standards in Nigeria

Experts are not happy about the standard of education in Nigeria. One of the reasons Nigerian higher institutions cannot measure up is students’ protests. Nigerian students leave what they should do to do what they are not expected.

The higher institution is the apex of the Nigerian educational system. Nigerians should not play with this level of education. Whatever goes on at this level can make or mar the entire nation. Therefore, Nigerian students should be careful at this level.

They should know that no nation could rise above its educational system. Protests will only reduce the standard of education in Nigeria. It can never take it higher than it is now.

6. Students Dismissal

Protests lead to the dismissal of students. A student that is dismissed from the higher institution will have nothing doing. This is why we have so many students roaming the streets of Nigeria today. They have no way of going forward.

7. Maimed Students

When students engage in protests, they often clash with security agents. The security agents have maimed some protesters in the process. Today, they cannot fend for themselves. They can do nothing. They are useless in life.

It is very difficult for someone to fight against his superior. A person that is higher than you is higher than you are. He can always use his position to suppress you. If he says you will not come up, you may not come up.

For one reason or the other, some lecturers had told some students that they would never graduate. They never graduated. These lecturers keep failing them until they failed out due to frustration.

Students of higher institutions in Nigeria should know that no condition is ever permanent. Four years is not forever. Therefore, it is better to play the fool and become somebody better rather than engage in protests and become maimed.

8. Waste of Money

Protesters often waste their money. When students protest, the academic year is disrupted. The following year, they start afresh. The school fees they paid the previous year is gone. They pay another school fee.JAMB Form

Oftentimes, the students of the higher institutions who are protesting do not end their protest in their schools. They block roads. Thus, they disrupt economic activities.

Some miscreants use the opportunity to loot people’s shops. Some markets close down, there is neither buying nor selling. People run for their dear lives.

Some protests go as far as making government offices not work. No lecturer lectures when students are protesting. The protesters force school offices to close. They do not allow any activity in the school. They disrupt all economic activities.

8. Institutional Closure

The protest of higher institution students in Nigeria leads to the closure of some institutions. The activities of the protesters may make the federal government close the protesting school down. When such an institution is shut, the students are forced to leave the premises.
