Responsibilities of SUBEB

  1. To formulate policy guidelines for the successful operation of Universal Basic Education Programmes in the states;
  2. Receiving block grants from the Federal Government through state governments
  3. Administering and disbursing funds allocated to the Board, Local Government Education Authority and other relevant agencies implementing the universal basic education;
  4. To prescribe the minimum standard for the basic education programme throughout the states in line with the National Policy on Education according to the advice of the National Council for Education;
  5. Inquire into and advice the state government on the funding and orderly development of Universal Basic Education in the states;
  6. Collate and prepare after consultation with the State Advisory Committee on Universal Basic Education and other relevant stakeholders, periodic master plans for a balanced and coordinated development of basic education in the states;
  7. Present periodic programme reports on the implementation of the Universal Basic Education to the state governments through their Commissioners;
  8. Monitor Federal and States input into the implementation of the UBE in the states among many other responsibilities.

To achieve the responsibilities listed above, SUBEB is structured into many departments headed by an executive Chairman who is supported by six permanent members, part-time board members and a board Secretary.

  • NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate;

  • Not below 22 and not above 36 years old;
  • Medical Certificate of fitness from a government-approved Medical Personnel
  • Resident in the state of application
