What is the NYSC Certificate of Exemption?
The NYSC certificate of exemption is a certificate issued to Nigerian graduates who are exempted from the mandatory NYSC service year. Every Nigerian graduate whether home trained or foreign-trained is required by law to participate in the one (1) year NYSC scheme.
However, if the graduate were to meet a certain requirement, they would be issued a certificate of exemption. This certificate proves that the said graduate did not a second from the NYSC program, but was exempted due to his/her limitations. - He/she is above the age of thirty (30) years
- He/she has served in any branch of the Nigerian Armed Forces (Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and Nigerian Air Force) or in the Nigerian Police Force for more than nine (9) months
- He/she is a member or staff in any of the following organizations:
- The Nigerian Security Organization, or
- The National Intelligence Agency, or
- The State Security Service, or
- The Defence Intelligence Service
- He/she has been awarded any National Honour.

How to Apply for the NYSC Certificate of Exemption
If you wish to apply for the NYSC certificate of exemption, follow the procedures below:
- Step 1: Visit the National Youth Service Corps State Secretariat close to you
- Step 2: Let the attendant know why you’re there
- Step 3: An application form for the NYSC exemption letter will be issued to you from the relevant department
- Step 4: Fill out the application form correctly, and attest it with your signature
- Step 5: Now attach the relevant documents needed to obtain the exemption letter. The required documents include:
- Completed application form
- Documents showing academic qualifications
- Approved result
- Applicants identity document
- Supporting documents (as instructed)
- Step 6: Now submit the application form and required documents to the relevant authorityJAMB form
- Step 7: You will be required to make a stipulated payment as directed by the officials
- Step 8: After successful submission of your application, it will be forwarded for validation and verification
- Step 9: Once validation and verification is done, your application will be approved.
- Step 10: You will be notified when your Exemption letter is ready to be collected. You will be required to collect the certificate from your institution

How to Apply for the NYSC Certificate of Exemption for NOUN
If you graduated from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and you wish to apply for the NYSC certificate of exemption, simply follow the procedures below:
- Step 1: Visit the official NYSC portal HTTP://portal.nysc.org.ng
- Step 2: Navigate to the bottom of the page and click on “Check senate list or it’s equivalents” to confirm your NYSC details
- Step 3: Now return to the NYSC homepage HTTP://portal.nysc.org.ng
- Step 4: Click on the “Mobilization Batch” icon
- Step 5: Click on the “Fresh Registration” icon, and you will be redirected to another page to initiate account creation
- Step 6: Input the required details into the available spaces and click on “ Continue”
- Step 7: You will be required to verify your email address
- Step 8: Click on the link sent to you to confirm and continue with the NYSC account creation/registration
- Step 9: Input the required details into the available spaces then click on “submit and continue” (click on Part-time to ignore JAMB regularization no.)
- Step 10: A payment page will be displayed for you to choose your preferred payment option
- Step 11: Now make the payment. The required payment is usually less than N3,000
- Step 12: Now check your NYSC dashboard to see if it’s available for immediate printing. If not, you can check after a few days, then make the printoutJAMB Result
