About CDFIPB.

CDFIPB is the abbreviation for Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration, Prisons (now correctional) service Board established by Decree N0. 14 of 1986 as Customs, Immigration and Prison Service Board had gone through several reforms to land at its current status. The current status of the CDFIPB is a result of the 1992 enactment that withdrew the services of the Customs Service from the Board and placed it in the Ministry of Finance and the 2003 Civil Defence Act that in 2011 merged it, the Federal Fire Service, Immigration and the Prisons (Correctional) Service under the Board’s jurisdiction. The Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons (Correctional) Services Board has its mandate under the Ministry of the Interior in 11 departments namely: Planning, Research and Statistics, Human Resources Management, Finance and Accounts Department, Joint Services Department, Citizenship and Business Department, Reform and Coordination Department, procurement Depart, Internal Audit Department, General Services, Legal Services, Anti-Corruption and Transparency, and Budget Department.

Career Overview in CDFIPB

A career with the CDFIPB differs depending on any of the paramilitary services under the Board a candidate is interested in. The Board has the responsibility of running the affairs, especially recruitment, training, and deployment of personnel into the paramilitary agencies mentioned above. The following are brief descriptions of the core mandate of the Services under the CDFIPB:

1. Civil Defence:

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC also known as Civil Defence is a paramilitary security agency in Nigeria established in 1967 with the responsibilities:

  • To protect lives and property in conjunction with the Police,
  • Institute legal proceedings against criminal offenders in accordance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
  • Conflict resolution,
  • Protection of oil pipelines from vandalism by hoodlums etc.

2. Federal Fire Service:

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) of Nigeria was established in 1901 by the British colonial government as an arm of the Police Fire Brigade. 3. Immigration Service:

The Nigeria Immigration Service is one of the distinguished security agencies in Nigeria established in August 1963 to perform the following responsibilities:

  • Issuance of residence permits,
  • Control of persons entering the country,
  • Issuance of travel documents such as Nigerian Passports to Nigerian citizens home and abroad,
  • Border patrol and surveillance,
  • Enforcement of Immigration Laws within its jurisdiction
  • Performance of other military functions.

4. Nigeria Prisons (Correctional) Service:

The Nigeria Prisons, now Correctional Service is another paramilitary agency operating under the Ministry of the Interior with the statutory responsibilities of:

  • Keeping convicted criminals in Lawful custody
  • Enforcing reformations
  • Producing suspects in court
  • Enforcing social isolation and confinement against convicted criminals
  • Enforcing repentance
  • Punishing to communicate deterrence and

Salary Structure in the CDFIPB

The ranks in Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons (Correctional) Service is based on the Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS) under which all the agencies that make up the CDFIPB fall. However, some of the agencies salary scales are higher with Immigration Officers being the highest earners and the Prison Warders being the lowest.

Thus, the average salary range of CDFIPB Officers lies between N30, 000 for the lowest ranking officer to about N3million for the highest-ranking officer. Graduates employees in the various services that make up the CDFIPB according to Voice of Nigeria is about N150, 000. dollar to naira rate

Recruitment Process for CDFIPB Jobs

The Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons (Correctional) Services Board conducts recruitment in batches into the four (4) services that make up the Board. While the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Civil Defence carried out their recruitment exercise in December. The Federal Fire Service and Prisons (Correctional) service are yet to open their recruitment portal. Meanwhile, this page will be updated as soon as the portal opens.

Requirements for CDFIPB Recruitment

Persons interested in applying for the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons (Correctional) Services Board jobs are to meet certain stipulated requirements.

Applicants must:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen by birth
  • Have National Identification Number (NIN)
  • Possess a certificate of medical fitness from a Government approved Medical Personnel
  • Pass drug test
  • Be of good character
  • Not be an ex-convict
  • Be free from financial embarrassment
  • Not be more than 30 years of age, except Doctors and Pharmacists who should be at most 35 years old
  • Be at least 1.6meters tall for males and 1.60meters tall for female
  • Have chest measurement of not less than 0.87meters for men
  • Be computer literate
  • Ensure that certificates are declared and accepted at recruitment centres as they will not be accepted thereafter WAEC result
