The Nigerian Salad is one of the most delicious meal in the country. It is one of the most exotic and easiest to make meal around today. It can be eaten as a meal on its own and can be used as a side dish that goes very well with jollof rice, fried rice and white rice.
Each recipes given in this article can be altered to suit the taste of the chef cooking. However, you should note that changes in the quantity of the recipes won’t do much to affect the final taste of this yummy meal.

Ingredients to make Nigerian salad:
1. 10 medium carrots
2. 4 small Irish potatoes
3. 1 Medium cabbage
4. 2 Medium cucumbers
5. 1 medium bunch lettuce
6. One 415g Baked Beans
7. 4 Hard Boiled Eggs

9. 5 plum tomatoes

Salad Dressing (Homemade or Heinz Salad Cream)

Steps on How to make Nigerian salad
a. First, wash and cook the Irish potatoes till it is done
b. Then cut the boiled potatoes into sizable cubes
c. Next, peel and use a grater to scrape the carrots
d. Cut the lettuce, cabbage and onions into small bits
e. Peel, remove the seeds and cut the cucumber into smaller bits. For those who want the green color in their salad, you should peel the cucumber in stripes.
f. Make sure you remove the seeds from the tomatoes before you cut it into smaller pieces
g. Now you put all the ingredients in a separate bowl, including the cabbage, then carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, sweet corn and baked beans. Reserve the eggs for the top of the salad.
h. Open the sweet corn and drain the water from it. Remember to rinse the seeds before setting it aside. Also open the baked beans
i. Peel the eggs and slice them thinly
j. Next take out a large bowl and start putting all your ingredients in it.
k. You can have 2 layers of each, depending on how big your bowl is. Layer until your ingredients are exhausted.
Place in the fridge to cool, then serve with Heinz Salad Cream.
You can take with any cold drink of your choice.

How to Make Nigerian fruit salad
Now that we know how to make the traditional Nigerian vegetable salad, it’s only fair if we provide the recipe for the Nigerian fruit salad.
Eating fruits is healthy. The aim of the fruit salad is to give the maximum nourishment possible in a bowl. It helps nourish the body, help it fight against various diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease.
The Nigerian fruit salad is the mixture of different blends of fruit into a bowl to give the perfect deliciousness. Depending on your taste, fruits that can be used include but are not limited to; Strawberries, bananas, pineapples, pawpaw, orange, grape, cherry, raspberries etc.
Ingredients to Make Nigerian fruit salad
1. 1 banana
2. 6 strawberries
3. 1 bowl of grape
4. 1 apple
5. 1 mango
6. A bowl of pineapple

a. Cut each fruit into smaller bits
b. Place them together in a large bowl
c. Put in the refrigerator
d. Serve chill and enjoy
To enjoy better, I usually take mine with yoghurt or smoothie. You can try it too.
Note: Any fruits can be used in the recipe. In fact the more the merrier or should I say the more delicious it would be.
How to do salad dressing in Nigeria
Now there are some of us that do not want to use the Heinz Salad Cream, they prefer to have the home made salad dressing. So here is a recipe on how to make a delicious one.
Ingredient:
a. 1 tin of anchovies
b. Juice from 2 ripe limes (or lemon)
c. Honey
d. A teaspoon grain of mustard seed

Preparation:
1. Open the can of anchovies and cut them into smaller pieces
2. Combine with the fish, the oil that came with it, mustard seeds, and the lime juice
3. Add some honey to taste, then mix well.
4. You can add some black pepper at the end if you want
And you have your traditional Nigerian salad dressing.
